Our Approach

Shober Employee Benefit Service is a privately held, full-service insurance brokerage based in Charlotte, NC, and operated by Steve Shober.

Steve Shober has been an Employee Benefits Professional since 1994, and is our primary large group consultant in the Southeast. A native of Charlotte, N.C., Steve has experience in each major segment of the health insurance industry, from carrier to HMO to consultant.Steve Shober

He began his career in Charlotte with regional insurance carrier Mid-South Insurance Company. Steve then worked for two of North Carolina's largest physician network HMOs: Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center's QualChoice of North Carolina. Steve then served as the consultant in charge for the Southeast operations of San Francisco-based Craford Benefit Consultants. Currently, Steve is President of Shober Employee Benefit Services in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Steve's expertise is creating cost-effective solutions for employers through strategic benefits planning. Creatively, he helps companies design and execute innovative solutions for Web-based Employee Benefit technology and eHR, benefit design and implementation, market analysis, premium and benefit analysis, communications, vendor management, funding arrangements, pricing, and network options.

He is an active member of the North Carolina Health Insurance Underwriters Association. Steve graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a B.A. in Psychology and he lives in Charlotte with his wife, Carla, and their three children.
